Time to enter the house we passed to meet grandpa.

Where we meet the possibly eccentric Doctor Disc, who is excited we have been forced into our Presidential postion. He congratulates us with a new Robopon!

(The Robopon received here will be determined by your birthday you entered for your character)

Viggy is a Fire Type who takes no shit from anyone. He comes with 3 Fire software installed already giving him some good fire based attacks for early game.

We head North of Dr. Disc's home and we run into another one of Bisco's goons.

We quickly make short work of David and his Screwy with a single Firepunch from Sunny. Then Lisa comes to inform us of Bisco's grand plan.

Yes, Lisa. I agree that the educational system is in grave decline. It seems Bisco has crowned himself the Robopon king at school, using his Robopon to bully the other kids into doing his bidding. But one quick question...

Well it seems Jose has amnesia. Now this is a true RPG

We agree to head to Libra, the neighboring town to stop his tyranny, but before we do that. We will be heading North to Tail Castle. We need to pick up some software to make the next section a stroll through the park.

Here is the map screen, which we get when leaving a town. Capri Town is our home town. So lets head North to the purple castle of Tail.

Tail Castle has a nice town, and will play a bigger part of the story later on. The red women in front of us is actually Riz of the Elite 8

The left shop is Items, while the right shop is weapons/software. We will be heading into the Weapons/Software shop for some upgrades.

We only need to purchase 2 software at this time. Holy & Evil to give to Sunny.

Here is a good time for me to show how to install software and its effects!

Go to the Menu screen and down to Tools. Select the Software option, which will allow you to choose the Robopon to intall software too.

We see that Sunny has 1 FIRE1 software installed. This is what gives him his Firepunch. (combined with his fist weapon) We take his FIRE1 so that we can fit EVIL1 and HOLY1 on him.

The results is this! Evilfist & Holyfist come naturally from the software, but its the Babble move we came for. Babble is created when you combo the Holy + Evil software on one Robopon. It is an Evil type attack that is very good for early game. We will be using it to exploit a fight in the next update.

JOSE vs Sean the sickly

JOSE VS SEAN.

I would like to use this time to explain the mechanics while you watch this intense video of the games first possible fight.

Fight - Opens the attack selection menu
Items - Opens the item menu.
Defend - Not as obvious as the others. Allows you to defend that turn instead of making an attack. (reduces the damage of the incoming attack)
Robopon - This is where you switch out your Robopon that is currently battling.
Escape - Used to run away from "wild encounters". No use in a trainer battle.
Evade - You dodge the next attack by the other Robopon. (Possibly might fail? I don't know, because this and Defend are pretty worthless in my opinion)

Key Terms
EP - Energy Points are consumed by attacks, the more powerful the attack the more EP that is used up. Can be restored by mechanics and items or just simply leveling up.
EB - Energy Balls are essentially like EXP but only for evolution of the Robopon. In the status screen, it shows you how many more EB's are needed for evolution. Then which you take the robopon to the closest lab.

Special Attacks - Robopon does this fairly differently then Pokemon does. They are less permanent changes to the 'Pon and can be altered at anytime not in battle. Robopon have RAM slots that increase as they get stronger and evolve. Software which is like TMs(Technical Machines) in Pokemon are placed in the slots. Unlike TMs they are not moves directly but Attributes (ex. FIRE, WATER, LAND) and upon combinations of different Software, your Robopon gains new attacks in battle. This is probably one of my favorite things about Robopon's mechanics.

There are many different attributes of Robopon, so lets take a look at a Battle Chart. Made by the probably lovely Chris Marsh of Gamefaqs.

List of Attributes
NORMAL
FIRE
WATER
WIND
EARTH
THUNDER
HOLY
EVIL
GROUND
SEA
SKY

Next time we will be heading to Doctor Disc's lab and getting our second Robopon, who is a fire pig with a cape (oh boy~) then on our way to Tail Castle for some badass upgrading to Sunny.

ROBOPON LP

I equip a shotgun to my unicycle. Let's Play Robopon!

Robopon. What can I say about Robopon? Obviously riding on the fame of the Pokemon series, Robopon was released to the Japanese masses on December 4th 1998. Coming in 2 different versions entitled Sun & Star Versions. I wouldn't be able to tell you the exact differences(other then the obvious different starting robot) since Atlus decided to only bring over the Sun version to American shores exactly 2 years later to the date. Robopon follows very closely to the monster catching and battling aspect of Pokemon with minor formula changes that will be apparent as we play. So enough of this intro... Let's Play Robopon: Sun Version! This game is brought to you by Atlus, who wishes they had invented Pokemon first.

Pokemon totally ripped off Robopon.

Oh boy they nearly made contact. My adrenaline is already pumping for the exciting game ahead of us.

I don't even know why Atlus bothered mentioning its the Sun Version since they didn't even bother bringing over both verisons. Oh well let us put this apocalyptic screen of falling suns behind us and mov-

What.

Okay, okay moving on!

I swear I've been here before...

I swear I have seen this room before somewhere. Well we are tossed into the game, while we are sleeping in our bed. Let's see what our room is like here. Looks like someone didn't even give a shit while coloring the tv sprite and just dragged a blue filter over it. Ominous foreshadowing of the quality of game to come...? Let us not even talk about the green stairs or pink computer.

*Loud Rumbling* Well it looks like the suns that were falling in the title screen wasn't just for show. The world is ending and we are only seconds into the game. I guess we should wake up atleast.

It's the end of the world, kid. Time to regret those pink curtains.

Well we are out of bed now, checking out the window to see whats going on. (I have yet to gain control of the character) Let's go see if the folks know whats up.

No, the loud noises and shaking did. Dad is startlingly blue for some odd reason. Not that it matters because this happens.

This is a perfect time to take a business trip. Bye family!
Well It looks like dad is leaving on his "business trip". Mom, with her normal skin color has never let us down when we need her.

Oh god mom don't leave me too, and why won't someone fucking tell me why the whole house was shaking?

MOOOOOOM

After being deserted by our parents we are contacted by our possibly dead or invisible grandpa. Grandpa, I can't help you, since you are dead. Stop haunting us and making earthquakes.

Or he could just be in the backyard? Let's go ask him why the house was shaking.

Backyard, my ass.

Speaking of which.
what the hell is that anyway. I can't tell if that's a home, a church, or a terrible RPG Maker 98 creation. I can't check it out yet because I still have yet to gain control of my character.

After trudging through the horrible architecture we find Grandpa watching what looks to be a motorcycle and dune buggy go at it.

Grandpa what are you doing?

*both machines explode into flames as they die in immense pain*
It seems grandpa is a sick twisted man who pits robots against each other for his personal amusement and gain. Sounds like Robot Wars.

Hey Grandpa~

You don't remember me?

You have been hanging around with Prof. Oak again haven't you?

I see where this is going.

and to add some ethnic culture to this LP, we will be donning the name "JOSE"
Not much choice with a 4 character limit to the name.

lo que usted dice, grandpappy

I see where dad gets his spontaneity from.
Well it seems after Grandpa's horrible failure of an experiment, he is fed up with Robopons. Leaving us the burden of a possibly failing company who is in debt. Thanks Grandpa.

Another failure I am sure.

We follow Grandpa through his brightly colored lab til we make it to his head lab, where we meet our first Robopon and Grandpa's latest creation appropriately named Sunny.

Oh like not force it to fight to its death for an experiment? Whatever Grandpa.

Now we have our first Robopon, so we can go around town bragging or some shit.

but first Grandpa gives us our allowance, in the only currency he knows. Gold dubloons.
Let's blow this place and go bully kids with our new Robopon and buy M- rated games.

Now that I have gained control of myself, lets head east to the closest Gamestop.

Excuse me, can you please move. I am trying to buy M- rated video games.

Well it seems we need to help Lisa with this bully before we can progress.

Woah woah man, I just want to get by.

Okay here is our first fight of the game. Before each fight starts, you see your team and your opponents team of Robopon. Then comes the view of you and your opponent...

Holy shit what is wrong with you.

It seems Sean is horribly disfigured, so let us show him how us company owning badass kids roll.
